In a striking gesture, the choreographers Maguy Marin, Volmir Cordeiro and Bernardo Montet each pass on a fragment of their respective repertoires to the disabled dancers of the Catalyse troupe, who present them in three short, reimagined forms.
Led by Bernardo Montet, the Vignette(s) project entrusts a piece of our choreographic heritage to the performers of the Catalyse troupe. Their approach to re-reading fragments of L’œil, la bouche et le reste (Volmir Cordeiro, 2017), May B (Maguy Marin, 1981) and Soleil du nom (Bernardo Montet, 2016) combines two strong perspectives: that of people with disabilities, whether mental or physical, but also that of professional artists working in the field of theatre. By adapting to the singularity of these unique performers, the choreographers explore the idea of transmission, and the demands it makes on language, adaptation and the imagination. As they move through the different scores and recreate their choreographic gestures, the dancers ultimately become the ’common ground’ that unites these 3 vignettes within a single original creation.
L’Atelier Catalyse, a theatre company based in Morlaix whose performers are people with disabilities, was founded 30 years ago by Madeleine Louarn, associate artist at TNB. Under her impetus, the company has undergone a series of professional developments, culminating in 2021 with the opening of the first Centre National pour la Création Adaptée at the SEW cultural hub in Morlaix.
